Queering History

Panel Discussion

The past 20 years have seen a boom in historical fiction about LGBT lives. From Brokeback Mountain to Tipping the Velvet, versions of history are being written that focus on more than just straight, cisgender protagonists. Explore the challenges of writing a past for queer and trans people with Ronald Frame, Kaite Welsh and Laura Macdougall.

Journalist, author and editor Kaite Welsh was one of last year’s judges of the Green Carnation Prize for LGBT authors.

Laura Macdougall is an LGBT journalist and literary agent.

Ronald Frame is a prize-winning novelist, short story writer and dramatist. He was educated in Glasgow and at Oxford University. Alexander McCall Smith calls him “Scotland’s finest contemporary writer.”
